Mondúver
The Monduver is a mountain massif located in the southeast of the province of Valencia, in the region of la Safor. Its Summit is 841 meters high and is located between the municipalities of Xeresa and Gandía.
Is is of a solid Cretaceous where stand out them powerful forms Karst as the poljes of the Drova or of Barx or the cave of the Parpalló. It also presents a large number of Sinkholes and deep chasms where filtered water which will then sprout in the form of springs at the foot of the Monduver.
Its peak belongs to the term municipal of Xeresa, as well as great part of the mountain, that also includes to those terms municipal of Gandia, Barx and Xeraco. You can climb to its Summit by a paved road that part of La Drova. Beaches of Gandia and Xeraco extend from above, and it is possible to enjoy magnificent views of the Gulf of Valencia, including the Cape San Antonio, the city of Valencia and, if the day presented good visibility, the island of Ibiza.
In its cima is is a Center issuing of radio and television that gives coverage to the regions of Safor, Marina high, coastal, Ribera high and Ribera low.
The Monduver and its surroundings have many vestiges relating to its human occupation since the most remote times. Abounded already then them springs and the great height of the Monduver with regard to the coast Mediterranean facilitated the defense of them ancient villages. In the Parpalló cave is one of the main stages of the Valencian prehistory. It consists of a large cavern, located on the southern slope of the mountain, which can be accessed through an entrance of about four meters wide and ten of height. It was excavated between 1929 and 1931, and is considered one of the most important prehistoric sites corresponding to the Spanish Paleolithic.
There is bet in January of 1097 an army koubba to the command of Muhammad bin Tashfin to harass to the Prince of Valencia Rodrigo Diaz the swords and to the King of Aragon Peter I, favoring the battle of Bairén in which them forces Christian defeated to them almoravides.
The mount suffered a major fire in the spring of 2006 and is currently in the process of reforestation.
